The Grand Canyon University men's golf team fell short in its attempt to capture its opening spring tournament, taking second at the Carlton Oaks WIU Invitational hosted by Western Illinois at the Carlton Oaks Golf Course in Santee, Calif.
The Antelopes shot a three-round total of 53-over 917. DePaul won the tournament, defeating the Lopes by two shots, finishing with a 915. Butler placed third with a 925.
GCU's
Brett Wilson finished second after posting his second round of 72, completing the invitational at 10-over 226. Teammate
Jake Byrum shot a 1-under 71 today and finished in a tie for fourth with a 228.
DePaul Freddy Thomas was the individual winner with an 8-over 224.
Mariano Rossi (T12, 234),
Alex Kline (14, 235) and
Billy Comeaux (T20, 242) rounded out GCU's five.
Hayden Webb, competing as an individual, finished in tie for 29
th with a 248.
