The Grand Canyon University men's golf team today completed the first round of action at the Western Athletic Conference Golf Championship, held at the Stallion Mountain Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev.
Due to the Antelopes transition from Division II to Division I, the players are unable to compete in the tournament as a team but they are still able to participate individually.
New Mexico State is in the team lead with a first round score of 16-under 272, two strokes ahead of Idaho.
Mark Geddes leads the squad and is tied for sixth after carding a two-under 70. He is two strokes ahead of teammates
Mariano Rossi and
Alec Dahlquist, who are tied for 19
th overall.
Dahlquist had a team-best five birdies in today's action, followed by Geddes with four. Geddes is six strokes out of the individual lead, held by New Mexico State's Kenneth Fadke.
Anthony Maccioli and
Hayden Webb posted identical scores of four-over 76 in today's round to currently stand in a tie for 30
th.
