Grand Canyon University head men's soccer coach Petar Draksin today announced that Hector Lasso has joined the squad for the 2014 season. He becomes the sixth student-athlete addition to the program for the upcoming season.
"We are very excited to get a player like Hector," said head coach Petar Draksin. "His strengths are in his athletic ability. He brings a level of physicality that will help our program, especially as a defender."
Lasso, from Great Neck, New York, previously spent time at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Tex., where his squad won the 2012 National Championship. Lasso was also a part of the team that was the 2013 runner-up after losing to Iowa Western on penalty kicks in the championship game.
Additionally, the 6-0 midfielder spent time with the U15, U16, and U17 United States National Team and competed in Bella, Italy with the youth national pool in 2008-09.
"Hector played at one of the top junior colleges in the country, and he understands success," added Draksin. "He will definitely strengthen our back line. It is great for our program that we were able to land him over a few other Division I schools."
