The second round of the El Macero Classic was completed today and the Grand Canyon University men's golf team moved into sole possession of fourth place with a two-round total of eight-over 584. The Antelopes are just one stroke out of third place, owned by Sacramento State.
The tournament is co-hosted by UC Davis and Nevada at the El Macero Country Club in El Macero, Calif.
As a team, GCU bettered its score by 10 strokes, carding a one-under 287 in today's round.
"Today was a great day for the Lopes across the board," said head coach Mark Mueller. "It was a total team effort. I am very excited for tomorrow as is the team. We can't wait to get after it one more day and see the guys keep playing better."
UC Davis continues to lead the 12-team field ta 14-under 562, a comfortable 18-stroke lead over CSU Fullerton in second place.
GCU's
Hayden Webb moved into a tie for third place overall, after bettering his first round total by one stroke (two-under 70) for a 36-hole score of three-under 141. Webb is four strokes out of first place, held by Fullerton's Mark Anguiano. UC Davis' Luke Vivolo trails the leader by just one stroke. Webb's total of 25 pars through two rounds in the third-highest among the field of competitors, while his five-under on Par 5 scoring is tied for second-best.
Mark Geddes is in fifth place with a two-round total of two-under 142 after carding a three-under 69 today. Geddes collected seven birdies in the second round to bring his total to 10 for the tournament, which is tied for the most.
Alec Dahlquist is tied for 21
st with a two-round score of five-over 149, three strokes ahead of teammate
Mariano Rossi who is tied for 34
th place. Dahlquist recorded five birdies in today's round.
