The Grand Canyon University men’s golf team is in a tie for 13th-place after the first round of the NCAA Championships at the par-71 Hershey Country Club course in Hershey, Pa. The Antelopes shot 18-over 302 and trail first-place Barry (even, 284) by 18 shots. Lynn (290) is in second, while CSU Monterey Bay sits in third (291).
The top eight teams after three rounds (54 holes) will qualify for match play to determine the 2013 NCAA Champion. The Antelopes are currently five shots out of a qualifying spot.
Jimmy Kozikowski led the Antelopes, carding a 2-under 69 and is tied for second overall. He had five birdies during his round and finished his first nine holes (10-18) with a 32.
Adam Svensson of Barry leads the field after recording a 3-under 68. Roberto Francioni of Lynn and Case Gard of Florida Southern are also tied for second with Kozikowski.
Grand Canyon’s
Mark Geddes used four birdies on his back nine (1-9) to finish at 1-over 72 and a tie for 15
th.
Alec Dahlquist was the next highest placed Antelope, finishing in a tie for 67
th with a 6-over 77.
The second round of the 54-hole NCAA Men’s Championship will be played tomorrow. Grand Canyon is scheduled to begin their round at 9:50 a.m. (Arizona time).
