Grand Canyon opened its men’s lacrosse season with a 14-7 win at San Diego State Saturday.
The Antelopes, Division I members of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association and the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference won their season and league opener by scoring seven second-quarter goals, taking an 8-4 lead. GCU broke a 1-1 first-quarter tie.
Carson Barton had a game-best six goals on eight shots and added four assists and two ground balls.
Dean Fairall and
Jason Klein had two goals each. Fairall added five ground balls, while Klein had three shot attempts and two ground balls.
Ron Hamwey was 8-of-14 on faceoffs and had seven ground balls.
Luciano DeDonatis and
Tate Linford had nine and five ground balls, respectively.
Goalkeeper
Jordan Johnson had 17 saves in three quarters of play.
GCU (1-0, 1-0) travels to Cal Poly next Saturday for a 5 p.m. contest.
