The Grand Canyon University men’s soccer team is ranked 10
th in the recently announced National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll. The Antelopes remained second in the West Region behind Seattle Pacific, who is ranked second in the national poll.
“Dropping two spots after we lost to Seattle Pacific is not bad at all,” said head coach Petar Draksin. “We have to get going now and be consistent. We want to put a winning streak together from here on out. Our goal is to stay in the top-25 in the country for the entire season, to win the conference championship and be in postseason. It is very important for us to start winning and keep it going after this trip. We are looking forward to coming home for five games. There is nothing like being home.”
The ‘Lopes opened Pacific West Conference play with a 4-0 win over Fresno Pacific on Saturday. GCU suffered their first conference loss last night at Notre Dame de Namur.
“We put together the strongest schedule that we could and have played some tough games in the first three weeks of the season against some great opponents.”
GCU is led by senior
Saeed Robinson, who has four goals and three assists in six games. Freshman
Alberto Sanchez Garcia has scored a goal in each of the last two games.
Goalkeeper
Joshua Zehring has started in each of GCU’s six games and has 13 saves.
The ‘Lopes continue their Northern California swing with a game at newcomer Holy Names at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
