The Grand Canyon University men’s golf team wrapped up their 2011-12 season with a 16th-place finish at the NCAA Championships on the par-72 Cardinal Club Golf Course in Simpsonville, KY.
GCU posted a 13-over 301 today and finished the 54-hole event with a 33-over 897. Chico State finished in first with a 13-under 851.
The top eight finishing teams after the three rounds (54 holes) qualified for match play that begins tomorrow and will determine the 2012 NCAA Champion.
Mark Geddes was the highest-placed Antelope after his third-straight round of 74. Geddes finished in a tie for 45
th with a 6-over 222. He had four birdies during today’s round, including three on the back nine.
Tyler Wooldridge shot a team-best 73 today and finished in a tie for 51
st with a 7-over 223. He shot a 1-under 35 on the back nine and birdied the final hole of his collegiate career.
Ryan Mahoney posted a 76 today and also completed the championship with a 223.
Brandon Moore finished his championship with a 54-hole total of 232, while
Marcus Synegal had a 233.
Josh Creel of Central Oklahoma was crowned the Individual NCAA National Champion with a one-hole playoff victory over Jim Knous of the Colorado School of Mines. Both had finished with a 10-under 206 to force the playoff.
