The Grand Canyon University men’s golf team slipped to 15th-place after shooting a 16-over 304 during the second round of the NCAA Championships today at the par-72 Cardinal Club Golf Course in Simpsonville, KY.
The Antelopes have shot a two-round total of 20-over 596 and trail first-place Chico State (11-under, 566) by 30 shots. Central Oklahoma (569) is in second, while Cal State Stanislaus sits in third (573).
The top eight teams after three rounds (54 holes) will qualify for match play to determine the 2012 NCAA Champion. The Antelopes are currently 16 shots out of the eighth spot.
Ryan Mahoney leads the Antelopes with a 3-over 147 and is in a tie for 41
st place. Mahoney shot a 76 today after his opening round 71.
Mark Geddes is the next best-placed Antelope after his second-straight round of 74. Geddes is 4-over for the championship and in a tie for 50
th. He shot an even-par 36 over his back nine.
Josh Creel of Central Oklahoma leads the field after recording a 9-under 135 through two rounds. Chico State’s Erik Frazzetta is in second, one-shot behind Creel.
The third round of the 54-hole NCAA Men’s Championship will be played tomorrow on the Cardinal Club Golf Course. Grand Canyon is scheduled to begin their round at 5:20 a.m. (Arizona time).
