The Grand Canyon University men’s golf team is set to open the 2012 Pacific West Championships today at the Waikoloa Beach Resort in Hilo, Hawai’i.
The championship will be a 54-hole event that will feature 36 holes today and 18 tomorrow on the 7,074 yard, Par-72 King’s Course. The course was designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish.
The Antelopes were predicted to finish the championships in second place, as voted on by the conference head coaches this this week. GCU received a total of 87 points and received two first-place votes. Host Hawai’i Hilo was picked first after receiving 96 points and seven first-place votes.
Grand Canyon will enter the championship looking to continue its recent run of success in the event. GCU has won three of the past five PacWest Championships, while finishing second in the other two.
