The Grand Canyon University men's and women's track and field teams will compete in their second outdoor meet when they travel to Irvine, Calif. to take part in the UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational at Anteater Stadium tomorrow and Saturday.
The meet is expected to get underway at 3 p.m. tomorrow with the hammer throw. Saturday's action is slated to start with field events at 10:30 a.m., while running events will begin at 12 p.m.
Among the teams competing are UC Irvine, Long Beach State, Utah State, Cornell, UC Riverside, Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount, as well as several unattached athletes.
On the men's side,
Dominique Hubert enters the meet with the fastest seed time in both the 100-meter (10.16) and 200-meter (21.22) dashes.
AAron Hill has the best long jump seed at 25 feet, two and a half inches, while also entering the meet with the second-fastest seed time in the 100-meter dash (10.45).
Karlin Stewart has the second-best seed in the long jump with a mark of 24 feet, 10 inches. Overall, GCU has four of the six top marks in the long jump, as
Kevin Lashley (fourth, 24 feet, five and three-fourths inches) and Hubert (sixth, 24 feet and one-fourths inches) round out the group.
Tyler Sipes has the top seed time in the 110-meter hurdles at 13.89 seconds.
For the women,
Shavine Hodges enters the meet with the fastest seed time in the 100-meter (11.54) and 200-meter (23.82) dashes.
Ann-Marie Duffus owns the best seed time in the 100-meter hurdles (13.66).
Brianne Kee (19 feet, seven inches) and
Amber Yingling (19 feet, three and a half inches) own the second and third-best long jump seeds, while Yingling has the top triple jump seed mark (40 feet, eight and three-fourths inches).
Petra Fanty with the second-fastest seed time (54.54).
Hill (long jump) posted automatic qualifying marks at last weekend's Baldy Castillo Invitational at Arizona State University, while the 'Lopes also collected 14 provisional marks at the meet.
