The Grand Canyon University men’s and women’s golf teams took part in the R.S. Hoyt, Jr. Dream Day earlier this week to help kick off the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Dream Day was hosted and conducted by The First Tee Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that provides affordable access to golf and strives to instill in young people life-enhancing values such as honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, and respect.
Nearly 300 children from the Kyrene, Pendergast, and Chandler school districts were in attendance to partake in golf instruction and other fun activities. The teams assisted in setting up various activities and the instruction of fourth-sixth graders.
“It was an honor for us to help introduce the sport of golf to these children,” said Director of Golf Paul Purtzer. “For many of them it was the first time they ever swung a golf club.
It was great for our players to have the opportunity to instill some of the values the organization stands for and are inherent in the sport of golf.”
