GCU Lax Wins Second Straight

The Grand Canyon University lacrosse team made it two straight to start the 2012 campaign, defeating Western Oregon 9-4 today at the Russell Road Recreational Complex in Henderson, Nev.
The game was low scoring to start, with the Antelopes taking a 2-1 lead into the break. The close affair didn’t stay that way for long into the second half, with the ‘Lopes outscoring the Wolves 5-1 in the third period.
Carson Barton scored three goals and had three assists to lead Canyon, a day after scoring five goals. Chris McWilliams added two goals.
GCU received a goal from Geoff Barnes, Cody Wagner, Adam Schubert and Jacob Hippensteel . Will Dohne, Barnes, McWilliams and Brandon Murphy added assists.
Fred Whistle was 10-for-11 on faceoffs. Andrew Hunter had 12 saves.
The ‘Lopes will return to action on Feb. 25 when they travel to Tucson, Ariz. to face the University of Arizona. UofA, a member of the MCLA D-I, enters the game with a 1-1 record. They defeated Washington 8-7 on Saturday, while falling to California- Berkeley 11-9 this afternoon. The Antelopes and LaxCats split a pair of exhibition games earlier this season.
