The Grand Canyon University men’s soccer program announced that they have signed Mehmed Selimovic to a National Letter of Intent. Selimovic is a forward from Mountain View High School in Meridian, Idaho who is planning on majoring in Sports Management.
“Mehmed continues our tradition of bringing in athletes from Idaho,” said head coach Petar Draksin. “He comes from a 94 Rush team that is one of the top teams in the nation and definitely one of the top in their region. He can score goals and is a name we will hear quite a bit in the future.”
Selimovic earned First Team 5A Southwest Idaho Conference honors in 2010 and 2011 while at Mountain View High School. He led his team in scoring and assists for three consecutive seasons beginning with his sophomore year. He was named to the All-State Academic Team from 2008-11 and earned the Maverick Award in 2009-10, given to student-athletes who demonstrate excellent character, sportsmanship and work ethic at Mountain View. Selimovic was also named a far-west Regional player in 2008.
Selimovic played for the Idaho Rush club soccer team and was named a TOP Drawer Player to Watch.
“Mehmed has proven himself at the high school and club level and it is always nice when you bring a soccer player into the program that can put the ball in the back of the net,” added Draksin. “He is definitely a Division I player and is an incredible student as well. Mehmed has received honors as both a student and as a soccer player in his state. He is a great addition to
Kyle Ciliento and
Saeed Robinson in the forward line for us.”
