The Grand Canyon University men’s soccer team has added local player Brandon Hansen to their 2012 roster. Hansen is a transfer from Oregon State University, where he played two seasons for the Beavers.
“I am excited to get Brandon back into our program because coming out of high school, he had quite a few options,” said head coach Petar Draksin. “Like every other athlete, it was important for him to play Division I. He went to Oregon State and played two years there before realizing there is nothing wrong with coming home and playing in front of friends and family. GCU is a great option for him to do just that and to continue his education at a private, highly-recognized school like Grand Canyon.”
Hansen played in 11 games over two seasons at Oregon State. He made his first collegiate start against Stanford on Oct. 31, 2010.
Hansen is a product of Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix, where he was a four-year letter winner for coach Bryan Sabato as a forward and midfielder. He was named to the All-Arizona team in 2010, while garnering Tempe All-City and All-Central Region honors three times. Hansen was also selected as his team’s MVP for three years. Off the field, he was a member of the National Honor Society and was a four-time academics letterman.
“We are always excited when we get a young man from our own backyard to play in our program,” added Draksin.
