The Grand Canyon University men's soccer team has signed Paul Kerridge, a 6-foot-1 center/midfielder from Oxford, England who played for the Brighton League Premier Division champion Brighton Electricity FC in 2009-10 and scored the Brighton College Cup championship-clinching goal for the Electricity the same season, to a National Letter of Intent.
Kerridge, 23, will be a graduate student when he enrolls at GCU later this month. He previously attended the University of Brighton, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in applied psychology and sociology. He intends to earn an MBA in strategic human resource management at GCU.
"Paul is from a rich soccer background," GCU Head Coach Petar Draksin said. "In our program, we are looking for Paul to bring maturity and experience in the central midfield. He is the type of player that will create things for the players around him. He's a playmaker. He's left-footed, which is always a bonus in the game of soccer. With Paul's signing, it strengthens our central midfield and gives us more options.
"I'm also very excited that Paul takes his studies very seriously. He's an honors student."
Kerridge attended Cheney School high school in Oxford, In 2005-06, he was selected for the Oxfordshire County (state) Team that finished runner-up in the Midlands Division. He also played for the Oxfordshire School League champions and Cup winners that season.
