The Grand Canyon University men’s golf team announced the signing of juniors Marcus Synegal and Liam Brace of South Mountain Community College to National Letters of Intent for the 2011-12 season.
Synegal is a business marketing and finance major who has showed tremendous success on the golf course and in the classroom. In 2011 he was named PING All-American and Academic All-American in addition to his all-region team honor. The Cougars were named conference champions, NJCAA DII Region I runner-up, and NJCAA DII National runner-up in 2011. Synegal was a member of the national championship team in 2010. He graduated from San Benito High School in Hollister, Calif. in 2009 where he was named all-league his junior and senior year.
“Marcus will bring a lot of experience having played on a national championship team,” said head coach Paul Purtzer. “He is a hard worker and a steady player.”
Brace is a local transfer from South Mountain but has a come a long way from his hometown of Sudbury, Suffolk, England. He had a solid even par final round at the NJCAA DII National Championship in 2011 to help his team reach a second-place finish. In 2010 he set a course record at the Rochford Golf Club, shooting six-under-par and finished fifth at the Midland Youth Championship. In 2008, he won the Suffolk junior match play tournament and won the Stoke by Nayland Junior Championship.
“Liam is a great student and has had a terrific junior golf record in England. He is a consistent player and will bring a lot of experience to the 2011-12 team.”
