The Grand Canyon University lacrosse team fell, 6-2, to Mesa State in Grand Junction, Colo. this evening.
With the loss, the Antelopes overall record falls to 3-9, 2-4 in the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.
GCU led 1-0 after one period behind a goal by
Kahai Sibley with 3:50 remaining in the first period.
The Mavericks would tie the game with a goal midway through the second period and send the game to intermission tied at 1-1.
Mesa State would take control of the game in the third period, scoring two goals in less than three minutes to start the second half. They would extend their lead to 6-1 after three fourth period goals.
Sibley added his second goal of the game, closing out the scoring with an unassisted tally with 36 seconds left.
Andrew Hunter started in goal and made seven saves for the ‘Lopes.
Mesa State outshot GCU, 34-25, and held a 27-19 ground ball advantage.
Grand Canyon travels to Alamosa, Colo. on Sunday for a game at 12:00 p.m. (AZ time) with Adams State.
Earlier today, Grand Canyon University
announced that the lacrosse program will compete in MCLA beginning next season.
