Giving Phoenicians a Foot Up

Grand Canyon University student-athletes were among the 275 volunteers for the annual Serve the City Day on March 26. The men’s soccer team helped lay brick for a pathway, shoveled gravel and painted the interior and exterior of Iglesia Luterana Vida Nueva on West Camelback Road in Phoenix. The team has adopted Vida Nueva as its community outreach project.
"I believe that there's never enough community service we can do, said Head Coach Petar Draksin. "It was a uplifting experience for our players to interact with their fellow students, as well as faculty, staff and university administration in a cause like Serving the City. "
Members of the women’s basketball team held a mini basketball camp for refugee children at Serrano Village Apartments, and student-athletes from the women’s soccer, swimming and diving, wrestling and men’s basketball teams also participated.
