'Lopes Fifth at PacWest Championship

The Grand Canyon University men’s golf team is fifth after two rounds of the 2011 Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference men’s golf championship tournament in St. George, Utah with a 14-over-par 590.
The ‘Lopes are 12 strokes behind the leader, University of Hawaii at Hilo, who carded a two-over-par 578. Dixie State College is in second with a 582 and BYU-Hawaii is in third with a 585. Hilo shot team low rounds, 285-293.
Senior Matt Pridey (Sioux Falls, SD, Washington HS, Augustana College) carded a tournament low round 66, six-under-par, in the first round to put him in first. However, a 76 in the second round bumped him to second behind Hilo’s Blake Snyder, who carded a six-under 138.
Freshman Mark Geddes (Cheshire, England, Calday Grange Grammar) is tied for eighth with a two-over-par 146 and senior Jacob Golembiewski (Chandler, AZ, Corona del Sol, Cal State Fullerton) is teid for 15th with a 148, four-over-par.
Tournament play with continue tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. with a shotgun start at the Sunbrook Golf Course. The PacWest champion will be declared at the end of the third round.
