Grand Canyon University men’s tennis team dropped a close 5-4 decision to Point Loma Nazarene University yesterday in San Diego, Calif.
Point Loma Nazarene is currently ranked No. 10 in the NAIA.
The Antelopes started quickly, winning two of three doubles matches. The No. 1 doubles team of
Stephane Murray (Paris, France, Notre Dame Le Menimur HS, Anderson University) and
Frederic Schoelzel (Gevelsberg, Germany, Gymnasium Hagen HS, Northwood University) defeated Joel Myers and KC Ensley 8-6. The No. 3 doubles team of
Jacob Spizman (Chandler, AZ, Dobson HS) and
Kevin Anderson (Scottsdale, AZ, Cactus Shadows HS, Eastern Washington University) beat Angel Tavera and DJ Jaehnig 9-8.
In singles, GCU’s No. 3 player, Schoelzel, defeated Ensley 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. Its No. 4 player, Murray, beat Diego Tavera 7-5, 7-6.
The Sea Lions improved to 3-0 on the season, while the ‘Lopes fell to 5-4.
GCU’s next match is against Azusa Pacific at 1:30 p.m on March 11 in Los Angeles.
