PALM DESERT, Calif. -- GCU's men's golf team begins its bid for a fifth straight trip to the NCAA Championships in the NCAA West/Central Regional at The Classic Club, hosted by CSU San Bernardino Monday.
It is a three-round (54-hole) tournament played over three days.
The Antelopes will need to finish in the top five in the 20-team event to move on to the NCAA Championships May 18-21 at The Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind. There are 10 teams each from the West and Central regions. Grand Canyon is the No. 3 seed in the West. The top two individuals not on the top five teams will also advance to the NCAA finals.
GCU qualified for the regional as the champion of the Pacific West Conference. The 'Lopes have won the PacWest three of the last four years.
GCU players will begin play at 7:30 a.m. with
Daniel Harrington (Chandler, AZ, Dobson HS) and will follow in 10-minute intervals with
Richie Kernagis (Mesa, AZ, Red Mountain HS),
Brandon Hill (Avondale, AZ, Millennium HS),
Bentley Nakasawa (Yuma, AZ, Yuma Catholic HS) and
Terence Daniels (Smith’s, Berm., Desert Mountain HS).
Daniels is coming off an individual title in the PacWest Championships.
