The Grand Canyon University lacrosse team lost to Minnesota-Duluth, 11-4, tonight at the GCU Soccer Field.
The Antelopes' season record officially remains 1-5. Minnesota-Duluth is a member of the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association, a national organization of non-varsity, men's college lacrosse programs. GCU is one of 37 Division II men's lacrosse teams sanctioned by the NCAA, and the results of games played between NCAA and MCLA teams are not counted by the NCAA.
GCU's goals were scored by junior attack Billy Lloyd (Tucson, AZ/Sabino), freshman attack Konner Klein (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain), senior attack Scott Franks (Lakewood, OH/St. Ignatius) and sophomore attack Jacob Hippensteel (Chandler, AZ/Chandler).
Franks had two assists and Lloyd had one.
The 'Lopes were outshot, 41-21. Both teams did well on clears (GCU 12 of 13, Minnesota-Duluth 11 of 12), and each team won 7 of 14 faceoffs.
GCU sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Hunter (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) made 16 saves. Minnesota-Duluth's Shayne Thomas recorded four.
Two players, sophomore attack Alex McNamara and senior midfield Dan Pitzl, combined to score six of the Bulldogs' goals. Pitzl had 12 shots in the game.
