Junior attack Billy Lloyd (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) scored three goals and sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Hunter (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) made 14 saves, including seven in the third period, but they weren't enough as the Grand Canyon University lacrosse team lost to Assumption College, 10-6, tonight at the GCU Soccer Field.
The 'Lopes fell to 1-5, while the Greyhounds improved to 2-0.
Assumption is a member of the Division II Northeast-10 Conference.
GCU was outshot, 51-15, and won only two of 17 face-offs. Both teams did well on clears. Assumption was 17-for-17 and GCU was 14-for-18. Neither team performed well on extra-man opportunities, however. The Greyhounds were 1-for-7 and the 'Lopes were 0-for-10.
GCU's other goals were scored by freshman attack John Casmedes (Plano, TX/Plano West Senior), sophomore attack Jacob Hippensteel (Chandler, AZ/Chandler) and senior attack Scott Franks (Lakewood, OH/St. Ignatius). Casmedes also had two assists, and Franks and freshman attack Konner Klein (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) had one each.
The 'Lopes return to action on Wednesday, when they host the University of Minnesota-Duluth at 7 p.m.
