Seniors honored in final home game vs. SPU
Grand Canyon is coming off the biggest win of the year. Now the momentum spills into tonight's final home game of the season.
Grand Canyon, ranked No. 9 in the West Region, will host Seattle Pacific at 7 p.m. tonight at GCU Soccer Complex. The Antelopes (6-4-4) will use this final non-conference game to gear up for a stretch run in Hawaii beginning Saturday.
Eleven seniors will be honored tonight before their final home game. Senior midfielder Joel Ibarra has been steady all year during a season filled with injuries.
Senior forward Tyler Turner has turned up his offense in the last three games, which has given the Antelopes new life as it prepares for a critical stretch.
Senior defender Bosko Jovicevic (pictured) returns from a three-game absence.
Grand Canyon tied Seattle Pacific (5-7-3) in Seattle, 1-1, on Sept. 15. SPU's Alec Nelson has five goals and three assists for 13 points. Ryan Brand has four goals and one assist, and Andy Wolverton has three goals.
The Antelopes, which have had three days rest for the first time in three weeks, have tied Seattle Pacific in three straight games, dating back to last year.
Seattle Pacific goalkeepers Ben Lovelace (3-4-1) and Kaleb Kuehn (2-3-2) have split time in net.
"It's going to be a tough game," Grand Canyon assistant coach Carlos Gomez said. "Seattle Pacific is always going to be a tough team to beat. But we come very motivated with the momentum in our favor. And with some of our guys back, that will help us."
