Grand Canyon University shot 863 to place third in the three-round GCU-Thunderbirds Invitational at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear Tuesday.
Wayland Baptist University (845) won the event by four strokes over Central Oklahoma (849) after two WBU players shot under-par in the final round. Wayland's Kevin Stinson (11-under 205) shot an 8-under 64 in the final round to finish three strokes ahead of teammate Jeff Dagg (8-under 208) and Western Washington's Jake Koppenberg (8-under 208) for the individual title.
GCU's Bentley Nakasawa (pictured) placed fifth, shooting a 6-under 71-67-72 -- 210. Teammate Terence Daniels tied for 17th at 72-71-75 -- 218. Donald Zaruba III (74-75-71) and Bret Beatty (78-72-70) tied for 25th at 220. Ryan Sperry tied for 44th with a 78-71-74 -- 223.
