Grand Canyon men's golf team cut 28 strokes on the final day of the Thunderbird Invitational hosted by Southern Utah in St. George, Utah. The Antelopes moved up from a tie for 17-18th to 13th, shooting 314-286 -- 600.
Kentucky won the event, shooting 282-280 -- 562, which was 14 strokes under par. First round leader Louisiana Monroe placed second, two strokes back at 278-286 -- 564. Denver was third at 6-under 287-283 -- 570.
GCU's Donald Zaruba III tied for 25th after carding a final-round 71 to finish at 1-over 145. Denver's Scott Tashie beat Rice's Michael Buttacavoli in a playoff to win the individual medalist honors. They both shot 7-under 137 in the two-day event.
