SANTA ROSA, Calif. -- It wasn't the best way to finish the fall season. Brandon LaMacchia
Grand Canyon men's golf team placed ninth at the Sonoma State Invitational at Santa Rosa Country Club Tuesday. GCU shot 294-292-294 -- 880 on the 6,711-yard course.
It wasn't necessarily that the Antelopes shot terribly. More a matter of a few other teams just tore it up. Chico State shot 26-under 838 to win the tournament. Host Sonoma State shot 12-under 852 to finish second.
Hawai'i at Hilo was third at 2-under 862.
Grand Canyon's Robbie LaMacchia (pictured) tied for 21st with two others, following a 1-over 71-72-74 -- 217.
"It's been an interesting fall season for the men's squad so far," GCU coach Marc Chandonnet said. "After losing some extremely talented seniors to graduation last year, it's been a bit of a struggle for us."
