Grand Canyon men's golf team didn't make any excuses. The Antelopes just didn't put together the round they were hoping for.
Grand Canyon's Donald Zaruba III (pictured) shot a 2-over 74 at the first round of the Thunderbird Invitational Monday hosted by Southern Utah University in St. George, Utah. He is nine strokes behind leader Nathan McMullen of Louisiana Monroe.
Louisiana Monroe leads the tournament at 10-under 278. Grand Canyon is tied for 17th at 26-over 314. University of Kentucky is second at 6-under 282 and Denver, Campbell and UC Riverside are tied for third at 1-under 287.
"We didn't have anybody that would say they played well today," GCU coach Keith Baker said. "There are no excuses. The weather is pretty good for this time of year and the course is in good shape as well. We just didn't get the job done."
