GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Grand Canyon solidified its berth in the regional tournament by finishing fifth at the Grand Canyon University Thunderbird Invitational at Palm Valley Golf Club Tuesday.
GCU was one of nine teams -- out of 20 -- to finish under-par. The Lopes had a 54-hole total of 855 to finish 9-under. Chico State and CSU-San Bernardino shared first place with a score of 841.
"My team booked its ticket to the regional this week. How can you be disappointed with that?" said GCU coach Marc Chandonnet. "Any time you're under par as a team, on any course, you're happy."
CSUSB's Kenny Pigman was the individual winner with an 11-under 205. Four golfers tied at 9-under. GCU was led by Mike Krahe, who finished 6-under, tied for 11th.
