Earned first-team all-state recognition at the 6A level as a senior in 2021. Was also the 6A Defensive Player of the Year. Lopes teammate Daniel Avitia also earned first-team recognition and was the 6A Player of the Year.
Earned region awards also, an all-region pitcher and the all-region defensive player of the year.
Went 10-3 with a 1.63 ERA through 94 1/3 innings over his three-year varsity career.
Posted his best record and ERA as a senior in 2021, going 7-1 with a 0.82 ERA. Struck out 61 in 51 1/3 innings. Helped Red Mountain to an 18-4 mark.
His favorite high school sports memory was the Mountain Lions' 2019 playoff run where — as the No. 8 seed — they won their first three games to advance to the three-game semifinal series.
