FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Grand Canyon women's basketball dropped its first contest in more than two weeks Wednesday night, snapping a three-game skid at the hands of Colorado State at Moby Arena.
The final score read 67-50, with GCU's 50 points being its lowest scoring output since last meeting the Rams on Dec. 31.
Lopes freshman
Ines Zounia led the squad with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, including 3-of-3 accuracy beyond the arc. The reigning Mountain West Freshman of the Week has now scored 41 points over her last three games.
In a matchup that featured two of the top four teams in the Mountain West, GCU (6-13, 5-4 MW) trailed 17-13 after one quarter at Colorado State (16-4, 7-2 MW). Zounia scored eight of her 13 points in the first quarter, knocking down a pair of treys to open the scoring.
The Rams outscored the Lopes 19-9 in the second quarter, with 12 points coming from behind the 3-point line.
The Lopes shot 30.2% clip from the field for the game, their third-lowest clip this season and finished 18% in the third quarter to trail 54-32 at quarter's end. GCU outscored the Rams 18-13 in the fourth, highlighted by an 8-0 run in the middle of the quarter, but CSU's lead remained in double figures the rest of the way.
It was the first game since Dec. 28 that the Lopes shot less than 70% from the free throw line with 10 or more attempts. Both teams entered top two in the Mountain West in free throw percentage, and both teams faired to a 61% mark from the line.
