After two Saturday losses against tough opponents, Grand Canyon came back to its winning ways Monday at GCU Tennis Facility.
The Lopes earned a 6-1 victory with the clutch singles performances of four GCU players rallying to wins after first-set losses.
In doubles matches, the Lopes took over in dominant fashion to earn the point for a 1-0 dual lead. On Court 3, GCU freshman Amalia Suciu and junior
Peyton Duckett defeated DePaul's Helin Alvarez and Roberta Sechi 6-2.
On Court 1, Lopes senior Dani Deaifi and sophomore
Bella Crossman picked up their first doubles win of the season with a 6-3 score that secured the doubles point.
In singles GCU junior
Sydney Schnell secured her first singles victory as a Lope with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Alaverez 6-2, 6-1 on Court 6.
Lopes freshman
Hams Metwally took care of business quickly, defeating DePaul's Clara Nilsson 6-2, 6-3.
On Court 2, Crossman battled back after going down 6-2 in the first set. She went on to only lose one game the rest of the match, winning 6-0 in the second set and 6-1 in the third set.
Although Crossman's point secured the dual win for the Lopes (1-2), the rest of the matches were played out.
Deaifi earned GcU's second comeback win after dropping the first set 6-2 by defeating Yasemin Pehlivan 6-2, 6-2 in the final sets.
Duckett also rallied on Court 5, starting with coming back from 4-1 to lose 7-5 in the first set. That momentum carried over to the rest of her match for a dominant 6-2 second set and a 7-5 win for the third-set tiebreaker.
The Lopes have a break before they head to California for matches at Long Beach State on Jan. 31 and Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 1.
