Grand Canyon begins a week of two GCU Stadium matches with a Tuesday night nonconference finale against former WAC opponent UT Rio Grande Valley. The Lopes are 5-1 at home this season and 5-2-1 overall.Â
GCU has two shutouts this month and has yet to allow more than one goal in a match this season. Its 0.75 team goals against average is 23rd best in the nation and third best in the WAC.Â
Ten of GCU's 12 goals have come in the second half. On the flip side, only two of the six goals allowed have come in the second half against the Lopes.Â
Graduate goalkeeper Daniel Ibarra has made his name known among the national goalkeeping ranks, averaging 4.2 saves per game with an .893 save percentage, ranking 37th and 6th in the nation, respectively. Ibarra has 17 saves over his last three games with two shutouts in 2025.Â
Lopes freshman forward Junior Diouf has recorded a point in six of his seven games, ranking ninth in the country with 2.14 points per game. Diouf has 15 points on the season with six goals and three assists. He ranks 13th in the nation in points and 15th in goals, the latter being a WAC lead.
GCU rattled off 21 shots against CSUN for the Lopes' most shots in a single game since Oct. 21, 2022, vs. Houston Christian. GCU averages 14.8 shots per game, 30th most in the country and second most in the WAC. They also rank second in the conference with 5.63 shots on goal per game.
The Lopes are 5-1 at home in 2025, and with five games left, have a shot at surpassing the 2021 team for most home wins at GCU Stadium. The 2021 team went 9-1-1 at home, and GCU has won six or more home games in two of the last four seasons.Â
LAST TIME OUT
GCU gave CSUN its first loss of the season in a 2-0 shutout last Friday evening at GCU Stadium.
Lopes sophomore Alan Hermitte tallied his second game-winning goal of the season, with junior Martin Luala notching his first career goal with GCU.Â
The Lopes moved their record to 5-1Â at home this season and hold a 13-4 goal differential.Â
SCOUTING UTRGV
UTRGV is 1-5-1 on the season, earning its first win last time out when it beat Texas A&M International 6-1.Â
The Vaqueros are 1-1-1 over their last three games, including a 1-1 tie against Lindenwood, which is receiving top-25 votes.
UTRGV ranks eighth in the nation in shot accuracy (.525). Vaqueros junior Eduardo De Oliveira is first on the team in goals with three.Â
