Head Coach
George Kiefer and the men's soccer team have announced the addition of five new players for the upcoming 2025 season.
New signees include incoming freshman Liam Healy, Raul Vazquez, and Finnley O'Brien, along with sophomore Michael Watkins and graduate Godwin Partey.
Partey, a St. John's transfer from Accra, Ghana, appeared in 21 games with 11 starts for the Red Storm between 2023 and 2024. He tallied one assist, five shots, and three shots on goal as a defensive midfielder for a team that won 17 games in those seasons. Prior to St. John's, he spent the 2022 campaign with Monroe College, winning the 2022 NJCAA National Championship while earning 2022 All-NJCAA All-American honors. His defensive efforts won him 2022 NJCAA Most Valuable Defensive Player.
Watkins, a Goodyear native and Verrado High School alum, spent last season at Phoenix College, where he notched NJCAA Second Team All-American and NJCAA Division II All-Region First Team accolades. He was named ACCAC Player of the Week twice, scoring 18 goals, three of which were game winning goals, with three assists in 20 games played.
Healy joins GCU via Hilton Head, South Carolina, where he attended Hilton Head Christian Academy. He played one season there while playing for Tormenta FC Academy for 10 seasons. In August, Healy was called up to the USL League One side team at South Georgia Tormenta.
O'Brien, from Virginia Beach, Virginia, joined South Georgia Tormenta FC in April and will play alongside Healy for the remainder of the summer. Prior to Tormenta, O'Brien signed a USL Academy contract with the USL Championship's El Paso Locomotive and trained alongside the U20 team. He made his professional debut in the U.S. Cup for El Paso in a 2-0 win over Union Omaha.
Vazquez currently plays for El Paso Locomotive, where he has been with the Academy for three seasons. Vazquez made his first team debut against Phoenix Rising, and was a part of the U20 team that made the Dallas Cup Final and made the USL Academy League Playoffs for the second consecutive season.
