ARLINGTON, Texas — The top-seeded Grand Canyon women's tennis team dominated No. 4 seed Abilene Christian in a WAC Tournament semifinal sweep Friday to advance to the championship dual Saturday against host and No. 3 seed UT Arlington.
With only two two players returning this season, the Lopes are in position to win their third consecutive WAC Tournament title and reach the NCAA Tournament again if they win the Saturday dual starting at 8 a.m. (Phoenix time) with the Mavericks. Due to weather forecasts, the championship site was moved indoors to SMU's Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex in Dallas.
"Execution, focus, playing the conditions well, playing together as a team, united and believing," GCU head coach Dané Vorster said of the victory in her first WAC Tournament competition.
