PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon women's golf team completed the third and final day of the PING/ASU Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Papago Golf Course.
GCU placed ninth out of 13 teams, totaling a 19-over-par score. Nine of the 13 teams finished over par in a field that included six teams ranked in the Clippd Scoreboard top 50.
Host Arizona State won the tournament at 36 under, followed by Northwestern (23 under) in second and Kansas (11 under) in third. The Lopes finished with a six-stroke advantage over fellow WAC member Abilene Christian.
GCU sophomore
Brenna Preap finished Friday's first round in a top-15 position and ended her third round Sunday in that same spot, recording a 1-under total to tie for 13th. Preap went 69/74/72 over three days, going even Sunday with three birdies that came in a row on holes 7-8-9.
A pair of Lopes tied for 38th at 6 over. Graduate
Calynne Rosholt and junior
Lena Tremouille shot 2 over and 5 over, respectfully, on Sunday, when Rosholt had two birdies on the front nine.
GCU senior
Anci Dy tied for 60th at 11 over, followed by sophomore teammate
Jess Haines at 16 over in a tie for 68th. Lopes senior
Amelia Curtis placed 71st at 19 over as an individual entry.
GCU closes out the regular season in Maricopa, Arizona, on Wednesday and Thursday in the Cowgirl Classic at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
