The Grand Canyon women's tennis team concluded its home schedule with wins over Seattle U and Utah Tech, ending the home slate with five straight wins at GCU Tennis Facility.
The Lopes (10-7) defeated Seattle U 4-1 on Friday and Utah Tech 6-1 on Saturday. GCU went 6-1 on the home courts this season.
GCU also honored its lone senior, four-year Lopes playerÂ
Valentina Del Marco. A two-time WAC Tournament champion, Del Marco competed in two NCAA Tournaments at GCU.
GCU beats Seattle U on Friday
Grand Canyon returned to the win column with a solid 4-1 victory over Seattle U on Friday.
The match started with a battle in doubles play. The Lopes secured a win on Court 2, as freshman
Bella Crossman and junior
Dania Deaifi took down Daria Nazarenko and Jade Quintana, 6-2. However, Seattle U won Courts 1 and 3 by identical 6-2 scores, clinching the doubles point and taking a 1-0 lead into singles.
GCU responded emphatically in singles, winning four straight matches to seal the team victory. Deaifi set the tone with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win on Court 4, while Crossman followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory on Court 3. Freshman
Angelina Mihajlovic added another point for the Lopes with a 6-4, 6-2 win on Court 5.
Sophomore
Gala Arangio secured the decisive point, defeating Natalia Michta 6-4, 6-4 on Court 2 to complete the comeback. With the match already decided, two contests remained unfinished. Freshman
Karina Hofbauer was in a third-set battle on Court 1 (5-7, 6-2), and Del Marco was locked in a tight second set on Court 6 (6-3, 4-5).
With the win, the Lopes extended their home court winning streak to four games, leading into Saturday's Senior Day match.
Lopes beat Trailblazers in home finale
Grand Canyon took care of business on Senior Day, earning a convincing 6-1 victory over Utah Tech (3-12) on Saturday morning.
The Lopes set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles courts to claim the opening point. Mihajlovic and Del Marco got things rolling with a 6-1 win on Court 3. Crossman and Deaifi followed up with a 6-2 victory on Court 2, and the top pair of Arangio and Hofbauer closed out the doubles sweep with a dominant 6-1 performance on the top court.
In singles play, GCU continued its strong form, winning all five completed matches in straight sets. Crossman improved to 10-3 on the season with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 win on Court 3. Arangio and Hofbauer sealed the match for the Lopes with respective wins of 6-2, 6-2 (Court 2) and 6-2, 6-3 (Court 4).
Freshman
Peyton Duckett kept the momentum going, picking up a 6-4, 6-2 win on court six, while Mihajlovic capped off the day with a 6-3, 6-4 victory on Court 5.
Saturday's win marks GCU's eighth straight victory over the Trailblazers, a streak that dates back to 2012.
This match marked the final home appearance of the season for the Lopes, who head to Stephenville, Texas, to take on Tarleton State on Friday.
