Lopes look to carry momentum into spring season

3-day tournament in Palm Desert begins Saturday morning
Nearly four months removed from its fall season, Head Coach Brent Nicoson and the GCU women's golf team resume play Saturday in the three-day Alice and John Wallace Women's Golf Classic, looking to build off its 45-19-1 record.

Participants in five tournaments from early September to late October, GCU finished in the top 5 four times with two top 3 placements. It's best outing came at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington, finishing second out of 16 teams in just its second tournament of the year.

GCU finished the fall campaign in Hawaii Oct. 23, tying for third out of 15 schools in the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.

The Lopes head to California for the first of two visits this spring. GCU's schedule favors travel, with the trip to Palm Desert and a March trip to LaQuinta, California, the only stops outside the state of Arizona in seven scheduled tournaments, including the WAC Championship April 14-16 at the Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park.

Twenty-one teams will compete over the course of three days at the Monterey Country Club, six of which are ranked in the top 50 of the Clippd Scoreboard national rankings. No. 3 Southern California leads the field in terms of highest ranking, followed by No. 5 Oregon, No. 38 San Jose State, No. 42 UC Davis, No. 44 Pepperdine, and No. 50 Long Beach State. Grand Canyon enters No. 64.

Full list of teams competing includes: New Mexico State, CSU Bakersfield, host school Long Beach State, Santa Clara, San Jose State, Hawaii, Gonzaga, CSU Fullerton, Southern California, Nevada, Boise State, Oregon, California Baptist, Wyoming, UC Davis, Portland State, Cal Poly, Pepperdine, Washington, Fresno State, and Grand Canyon.

GCU will field graduate Calynne Rosholt, senior Anci Dy, and sophomore Brenna Preap this weekend, the trio competing in every single round during the fall season. Sophomore Jess Haines, who also competed in every fall tournament with one being as an individualist, and classmate Lena Tremouille round out the starting five.
