GCU opposite Moser looks to continue hot streak in 2-match weekend

The 10th-ranked Grand Canyon men's volleyball team is set to host 16th-ranked UC Santa Barbara on Friday and Saturday nights at Global Credit Union Arena.

Both matches will be streamed live on B1G+.

3 THINGS TO KNOW

HOMECOMING FOR MOSER: Lopes junior transfer Trent Moser has been on a hot streak since starting for GCU at opposite in the second match of the season. The Gilbert, Arizona, native ranks eighth in the country in kills per set with 4.14. Moser was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's Offensive Player of the Week after securing 34 kills on .460 hitting with three service aces in seven sets.
QUICK STATS: GCU ranks 11th in the country in blocks per set with 2.7. The Lopes have also hit efficiently, ranking 13th with a clip of .357. GCU comes into the weekend matches ranked eighth in kills per set with a tally of 13.1. Junior setter Jaxon Herr is averaging 9.7 assists per set, which ranks 19th in the country.
HISTORY: The Lopes faced the Gauchos last season in Santa Barbara, where GCU won 3-1. However, UCSB leads the all-time series 3-1 with UCSB's last win in Phoenix going five sets.

SCOUTING UC SANTA BARBARA

UC Santa Barbara visits Phoenix in its first road trip of the season. The Gauchos are 4-0 and lead the nation in kills (14.9) and assists (13.5) per set. The Lopes are the first ranked team to play UC Santa Barbara this season.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Lopes will head to head to Reno, Nevada, for the Silver State Showdown, a boys volleyball event featuring matches with four of the 2024 NCAA tournament teams. GCU will face Belmont Abbey (Jan. 31) and Fort Valley State (Feb. 1).
