The Grand Canyon men's and women's swimming and diving teams will have their final home meets of the season Saturday against California Baptist.
The Lopes will hope to take down their WAC competition as they also will recognize the teams' seniors for Senior Day.
GCU will honor 13 seniors in the second meet against the Lancers this season. In the first showdown, GCU won the men's side 181-134, with the women winning 202-112 in the season opener.Â
In that match, the Lopes distance squad had a strong role, going 1-2-3 in the 500-yard freestyle with seniorÂ
Aleksandra Wegrzynowska (5 minutes, 5.48 seconds) taking first place, sophomoreÂ
Vivi Criscione (5:06.64) taking second and sophomoreÂ
Summer Dean (5:12.01) in third. Criscione and Dean also earned first and second places, respectively, in the 1,000 freestyle with times of 10:28.42 and 10:34.81.
On the men's side, juniorÂ
Alex Volkov, junior
Carter Dooling, sophomoreÂ
Guillermo Carrey and freshmanÂ
Jasu Ovaskainen finished first in the 400 medley relay by finishing in 3:14.72. Including relays, Volkov won five races over the weekend with individual victories in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
Diving was not included in that meet but the 1- and 3-meter events will take place at Edward A. Reese Aquatic Center on Saturday.Â
The meet will begin at 1 p.m. with the senior ceremony taking place during the second break after the 100 butterfly.
