Grand Canyon concludes the regular season by hosting Seattle U, looking to clinch a No. 2 seed in the conference tournament and honoring its three seniors at GCU Tennis Facility.
3 THINGS TO KNOW
- THE WAC RACE: There is a lot to be decided in the WAC's final week. With a win on Friday, the Lopes could clinch no worse than the No. 2 seed for the upcoming conference tournament. GCU has an outside chance of claiming the No. 1 seed and the conference's regular-season title, but it would need a win Friday and a pair of losses from league-leading UT Arlington. The top three seeds get a bye to the semifinal round of the upcoming WAC Tournament, which will be April 18-20 in Harlingen, Texas.
- THE SENIORS: GCU will honor and say farewell to a trio of seniors in the final home match of the season. Graduate transfers Gerhard Sullwald and Pablo Carretero Salvador spent one season in the program and made their marks. Senior Wyatt Anderson is concluding his fourth season as a member of the program.
- GOING FOR 8: With a win on Friday, the Lopes would post their highest regular-season win total since the 2018-19 season. In the second year under head coach Derek Siddiqui, GCU is seeking its eighth regular-season win which would be the most since the NCAA tournament-bound Lopes won 17 regular-season matches in 2018-19.
SCOUTING SEATTLE U
Seattle U has a two-match week that starts in Phoenix and ends in Seattle U against league-leading UT Arlington. The Redhawks are 4-11 overall and 1-1 in WAC play. Seattle U has participated in a pair of 4-3 matches in conference action, falling to Abilene Christian at home before winning at UT Rio Grande Valley. In nonconference play, Seattle U defeated UC Riverside, Idaho State and George Fox.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Lopes head to Harlingen, Texas, for the WAC Tournament. The top three seeds get a bye into Friday's semifinal round.
