3 THINGS TO KNOW
- FIRST ROAD MATCHES: The Lopes played away from GCU Tennis Facility for the first time last week, traveling to North Texas and Baylor. GCU defeated the Mean Green 4-0 and held a 3-1 lead over Baylor before the Bears completed a comeback and won 4-3. The Lopes remained ranked for the second straight week, landing at No. 62 in the ITA national rankings.
Β - PERFECT PUEHSE:Β Graduate Natasha Puehse extended her unbeaten record at the No. 1 singles position last week. Puehse picked up two straight-set wins over North Texas and Baylor to improve to 10-0 and earned her second WAC Singles Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks. Her last nine wins have come in straight sets.
Β - BYE WEEK, THEN HOME: After this road trip, the Lopes will enjoy a bye week before taking on Northern Arizona at home on March 14. It will be the final nonconference match before WAC play begins on March 22.
SCOUTING
Air ForceΒ sits at 1-6 this season with its only win coming against WAC member Abilene Christian on Jan. 25. The Falcons are looking to snap a four-match losing streak against the Lopes. Freshman Nadia Kojonroj leads the team with a 5-1 singles record at Courts 3 and 4.Β
Colorado StateΒ has been strong at home this season, picking up four wins at CSU Tennis Complex. The Rams defeated Northern Arizona and lost to Colorado State last weekend. The Rams have a 19-24 record in singles and an 8-12 doubles record with five pairings taking the court this year.
WHAT'S NEXT?
- GCU will have a bye week before hosting Northern Arizona on March 14.
