WACO, Texas – The Grand Canyon women's tennis team had its six-match winning streak snapped with Baylor rallying to a 4-3 home win on Sunday.
The Lopes (9-2) took the doubles point and held a 3-1 lead, but Baylor (6-4) completed a late comeback with wins on the bottom three singles courts.

Santa Strombacha won 6-3 at the No. 1 court while GCU freshmen duo
Iva Sepa and
Elizaveta Morozova won 6-3 at No. 3.
Puehse and Strombacha improved to 8-2 while Sepa and Morozova continued their strong play with a 6-0 record. Court 2 was left unfinished with junior
Valentina Del Marco and freshman
Valeriia Krokhotina trailing 5-4.
Leading 1-0, the Lopes leaned on their success at the top of the singles lineup. After Baylor tied up the match with a straight-set win over Sepa at Court 3, Puehse and Strombacha answered back with wins at the top two courts. Puehse won 6-2, 6-1 to improve to 10-0 at the No. 1 position while Strombacha won 6-4, 6-1 and now sits at 9-0.
With the GCU lead at 3-1, the Lopes only needed to win one more singles match to clinch the win. Baylor had other plans, winning the final three singles matches to complete the comeback.
The Bears tied the match at 3-3 with a pair of straight-set wins over Morozova and Krokhotina at Courts 4 and 6, respectively . That left one match to play with GCU junior
Lailaa Bashir at Court 5.
Bashir returned to the GCU lineup for her first singles match since Feb. 9 and jumped out to an early advantage with a 6-2 first-set win. Baylor's Zuzanna Kubacha regrouped and won the final two sets, 6-2, 6-3, to complete the comeback.
The Lopes will be back on the road this weekend with matches at Air Force and Colorado State on Friday and Saturday.
