GCU travels to North Texas, Baylor

The Grand Canyon women's tennis team will hit the road for the first time this season with matches at North Texas and Baylor this weekend.

3 THINGS TO KNOW

HOME DOMINANCE: The Lopes wrapped up the season-opening, nine-match homestand with an 8-1 record, the program's best start in their Division I era. The Lopes have dropped only six points all season and are on a five-match shutout streak.
ITA RANKINGS: Thanks to their hot start, the Lopes appeared in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings for the first time. GCU slotted in No. 49 in their debut appearance in the top 75 rankings. GCU is ahead of 13 Power 5 programs.
SINGLES DOMINANCE: The Lopes have been dominant in singles play this season, holding a team record of 33-4. The Lopes are 19-0 at Courts 1 through 3. Graduate Natasha Puehse is 8-0 at No. 1 while her doubles partner senior Santa Strombacha is 7-0 at Court 2.

SCOUTING

North Texas and GCU will meet for the first time since 1995. The Mean Green sit at 6-3 with a 4-1 home record and they will host Florida International before facing the Lopes on Friday. Freshman Lou Chalard leads the team with a 5-2 record in singles. North Texas is 16-7 in doubles play.

Baylor has yet to play a home match this season, opening in Waco against Denver and Incarnate Word on Friday before hosting GCU on Sunday. The Bears have played a tough schedule that featured three matches against ranked opponents. Miska Kadleckova is 5-0 in singles play at the top two courts.

WHAT'S NEXT

GCU will travel to Air Force and Colorado State on March 1 and 2.
