Lopes set for rematch with Seattle U in WAC semis

After earning a first-round bye, Grand Canyon faces Seattle U in the WAC Tournament semifinals on Wednesday night in Abilene, Texas.

The Lopes enter Wednesday's match as the tournament's No. 2 seed, coming off a bye for the quarterfinals of the WAC Tournament.
Grand Canyon beat Seattle U in the 2023 WAC Tournament title match to secure an NCAA tournament berth.
GCU senior goalkeeper DeAira Jackson won 2024 WAC Goalkeeper of the Year.
Jackson was joined on the All-WAC first team by two teammates, senior midfielder Bella Piete and senior defender Sidney Roberts.
Lopes senior defender Destinee Duran-Wise and junior midfielder AJ Loera were on the All-WAC second team.
GCU had never started WAC play with consecutive wins until this season, when the Lopes ran off five straight wins.
The Lopes are the only team in the WAC to win at Seattle U since 2019. They have done it three times since that year.
Jackson has accumulated eight shutouts this season, breaking the all-time GCU single-season record.
Jackson also broke the GCU all-time shutout record at 15. She did so in just two seasons in Phoenix.
The Lopes are 11-1-1 this season when they score a goal.
GCU has 15 goal scorers and 14 players with an assist through the regular season.
Fifteen goal scorers is the most by a GCU team in its 12-year Division I era. The number also leads the WAC this season.
This is the Lopes' first trip to Texas this season, but they played host to three Texas universities this season.
GCU's goals against average of 0.78 would set an all-time program record if the season ended today.

GCU and California Baptist played to a scoreless draw on Oct. 26 in Riverside, California.
The Lopes clinched the No. 2 seed and a bye in the WAC Tournament with the draw.
Jackson broke two all-time GCU goalkeeper records with the shutout.

No. 3 seed Seattle U knocked off No. 6 seed Utah Tech 2-0 in the first round of the WAC Tournament.
No. 4 seed California Baptist beat No. 5 seed Tarleton State 2-0 in the first match of the tournament. The Lancers advance to take on top-seeded Utah Valley in the other semifinal.
Utah Valley is unbeaten in the WAC this season. Its only draw came at Seattle U. The Wolverines' last loss against a WAC opponent was in the 2023 WAC Tournament semifinals, where they came up short against GCU.
In the most recent NCAA women's soccer RPI, there are two teams in the WAC in the top 75. GCU sits at No. 72 with Utah Valley coming in at No. 51.

This is the 26th all-time meeting between Seattle U and GCU, with the Redhawks holding a 16-8-1 advantage in results.
The teams last played in Seattle on Oct. 17, 2024, when the the Lopes won 1-0.
Seattle U junior Caroline Penner leads the team in points (17) with eight goals and an assist.
Redhawks goalkeeper Kassidy Kirgan has 63 saves on the season with an .818 save percentage.

With a win, GCU will clinch a spot in the WAC Tournament championship match.
The Lopes would play the winner of the other semifinal matchup between No. 4 California Baptist and No. 1 Utah Valley.
GCU has never lost a WAC Tournament championship match.
