Grand Canyon head coach
George Kiefer announced the signing of five newcomers for the 2025 squad on National Signing Day.
After a season that saw the back line of defense rank in the top 40 nationally for goals against per game, GCU added two Canadian defensemen in Toto Salama and Charles-Étienne Doutre Volcy.

Doutre Volcy, who was born in Montreal, is a central defenseman with experience from playing on the Canadian National Team at the U-15 level.
Doutre Volcy participated in the CONCACAF tournament in 2019 when he was 14 years old and scored a goal against Guadeloupe. He has played in international tournaments in Bologna, Italy, and Sense, France. His club experience includes a current stint with Montreal FC Academy, where he has been with the team for seven seasons that included a reserve role with the first team since 2021.
In 2019, Doutre Volcy helped lead Montreal FC Academy to the U.S. Soccer Develpment Academy semifinals in San Diego.

Salama is a central defensive midfielder also hailing from Montreal and boasting gold medal accolades.
Salama played for teams that won the Coupe du Quebec semiprofessional gold medal twice, the U-17 Première Ligue de Soccer Juvénile du Québec (PLSJQ) gold medal and the U-17 Coupe du Quebec gold medal.
The box-to-box midifelder, who can also play center back, was part of a team that earned a bronze medal in the Dallas Cup. As the anchor of the CS Laurent midfield, Salama earned Most Valuable Player of the Canadian Championship after helping that squad earn gold.

Kiefer added depth to the Lopes' goalkeeper position by signing incoming Pennsylvania native Gavin Atkinson.
A native of Allentown, the 6-foot-5 goalkeeper was the Generaltion adidas Cup Golden Glove Award winner in 2023. A member of the U-17 Philadelphia Union Academy club team, Atkinson led the team to a GA Cup victory with heroics in regulation time and during a penalty-kick shootout.
The 17-year-old was among 36 players who was invited to participate in the U.S. national team's under-15 camp at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, California.

Jack, who is 6 feet 4 and 190 pounds, will enter GCU as a defenseman who can compete at right back or center back. He has played the past eight seasons at North Carolina FC Academy in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Both brothers were Elite Clubs National League national semifinalists.
