The Grand Canyon women's golf team follows a first-place finish at the Timpanogos Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 12 by aiming to keep its momentum rolling at the three-day Coeur d'Alene Resort Invitational that begins Sunday in Idaho.
The Lopes cruised to a season-opening team title in Provo, Utah, carding a 27-under-par score to win by nine strokes. After shooting 1 over through the first 18 holes, GCU set multiple records including 18- and 36-hole scoring records as it shot 28 under over the final two rounds.
GCU will field seniors
Constanza Guerrero,
Becca Tschetter and
Carly Strole, junior
Leighton Shosted and sophomore
Ryan Flynn. Shosted finished second at the Timpanogos Invitational at 12 under, while Flynn (8 under) tied for fourth and Tschetter (5 under) tied for ninth.
The Lopes are one of 13 teams competing in Idaho, with fellow WAC schools Seattle U and California Baptist also in the field. GCU outplayed five other WAC schools (Southern Utah, Utah Valley, Utah Tech, UT Arlington and Tarleton) in Utah in the season opener.
