The Grand Canyon women's tennis team announced its fall schedule on Tuesday.
Â
The Lopes will play in seven events, beginning this weekend in preparation to defend their WAC title in the spring.
Â
The first weekend of the fall season will be a split one for the Lopes, who will have some players traveling to the Lumberjack Classic in Flagstaff and others to the Milwaukee Classic this weekend. The latter fall event marks the first time the Lopes have traveled to the Midwest. The Milwaukee Classic is an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Gold Event, meaning the men's and women's singles champions will receive a wild card into the ITA Fall National Championships on Nov. 1-5.
Â
The following weekend, the Lopes will head to San Diego State for the SDSU Fall Classic from Sept. 29-Oct. 1. GCU last competed at this event in 2021. The Lopes will return to San Diego for the annual ITA Southwest Regional, where they will compete in 128-player singles bracket and a 64-pair doubles bracket.
Â
Along with the team events, the Lopes will travel to International Tennis Federation events for the first time this fall. The first of three events will take place on Oct. 2 at the W25 Redding tournament in California. GCU will also compete at the W15 Norman (Oklahoma) from Oct. 30-Nov. 5 and the W15 Champaign (Illinois) tournament from Nov. 6-12.
Â
GCU returns four players from a NCAA tournament squad a year ago while welcoming three newcomers to Phoenix under second-year head coach
Katarina Adamovic.
