The summer of winning continues for the Grand Canyon men's golf team as senior
Tommaso Zorzetto took home first place in the LXVII Villa deste Gold Plate male tournament in Montorfano CO, Italy, at the Circolo Golf Villa D'Este golf club.
Â
Zorzetto shot 2 over par overall with rounds of 73-65-67-73 on the par 69 course. The Circolo Golf Villa D'Este, located just outside of Lake Como, is Italy's seventh oldest course and has held the most Italian Opens (12) while serving as host of Italian Amateur Championships since 1932.
Â
Zorzetto was awarded the traditional gold plate trophy for his win.
Â
A native of Padova, Italy, Zorzetto was a key piece to GCU's first ever WAC Championship this past spring as he shot 2 under par at the Boulder Creek Golf Club and tied for 26th as the Lopes won by five strokes over New Mexico State for the trophy. Zorzetto had arguably the shot of the tournament in the third and final round of the WAC Championship as he eagled the par 5 fifth hole to distance the Lopes from a tight race at the top.
Â
Other Lopes who have won tournaments this summer include
Sam Murphy, who won the Conacht Men's Championship in Ireland, and alum Alex Kline, who won the PGA Twin Cities open. Recent graduate
Matthew Braley qualified for the Compliance Solutions Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour while volunteer assistant coach
Jesse Mueller won the PGA Southwest Section match play championship.
